On May 18, the scientific and educational center of Dagestan State Medical University hosted an interdisciplinary republican scientific and practical conference “Topical issues of endocrinology” dedicated to the World Thyroid Day and the fight against obesity. The event was attended by about 200 doctors.

The event was organized by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Dagestan, the Department of Endocrinology of the Dagestan State Medical University, the Republican Diagnostic Center of the Republic of Dagestan, the Endocrinology Center, and the Association of Endocrinologists of the Republic of Dagestan.

Topical issues of modern endocrinology in order to improve the quality of services provided in medical and preventive departments, introduce new modern medical technologies in practical healthcare, share achievements, results and improve professional skills were discussed. Doctors of related specialties: nutritionists, internists, surgeons, oncologists, ultrasound specialists and cytologists also participated this conference.

Opening the conference, Acting Vice-Rector for Strategic Development Jamila Omarova spoke on behalf of the Acting Rector of DSMU Visampashi Khanaliev. “Today’s event is dedicated to the World Thyroid Day and the Fight against Obesity. Thyroid diseases are very common! Therefore, the discussion of the issues stated in the program of our conference is relevant and timely. Our speakers will share their knowledge about modern approaches to the treatment of obesity, including lifestyle modification, diagnostic algorithms, principles and benefits of motivational counseling for patients with obesity and carbohydrate metabolism disorders, various methods of treating cancer and other thyroid diseases, and much more.

Then Deputy Raisa Shakhsinova addressed the conference participants on behalf of the Minister of Health of the Republic of Dagestan. She showed her gratitude for organizing the conference and selecting the program questions that are interesting not only in Dagestan, but also in Russia.

According to Raisa Shakhsinova, scientific conferences are a good way to convey information on topical issues of endocrinology to specialists, establish contacts with doctors, and exchange experience and knowledge. These conferences raise awareness of primary care physicians and allow them to detect the disease at an early stage.

Tsyba MRSC-branch of the FSBI National Research Medical Center of Radiology of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation); Ekaterina Borodavina (Researcher of the Department of Radiosurgical Treatment with Open Radionuclides of the A. F. The reports of Associate Professor of the Department of Endocrinology of the Medical University, Chairman of the Association of Endocrinologists of the Republic of Moldova – “Disorders of carbohydrate metabolism and thyroid function: is there a connection?” and “Current clinical recommendations for the diagnosis and treatment of acromegaly” were also presented.

The conference was productive and fulfilled the planned program.
