DSMU research team won international grant competition

The research team of the Dagestan State Medical University won the international grant competition RESEARCH GRANT EHS 2021 with the project “Inflammatory response to polypropylene mesh with ALD coating used for hernioplasty. Experimental research on animals”. The grant amount was 5,000 €.

RESEARCH GRANT EHS 2021 — grant competition held by the European Society of Cardiology. The European Society of Herniology (EHS-GREPA) (Madrid, Spain) is a non-profit international scientific forum dedicated to abdominal surgery. Today, EHS-GREPA consists of 24 national chapters with more than 1,100 members.

The aim of the project is to use nanotechnological approaches for the prevention and treatment of mesh-related infections (postoperative complications) on polypropylene hernia meshes. The research will focus on the development of a new antibacterial nanocoating for hernioplasty.

The research team includes: Professor, Vice-Rector for Medical Work of DSMU Magomed Khamidov; Professor, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine of DSMU Razin Rahimov; Professor, senior researcher of the Research Institute of Environmental Medicine of DSMU Ilmutdin Abdulagatov; Associate Professor of the Department of Hominal Physiology of DSMU, Head of the Department of Grants and Innovations Naida Abdullayeva; 5th-year student of the Faculty of Medicine of DSMU Zeynab Hasanbekova.
