Meeting with the staff of the Department of Microbiology, Virology and Immunology

   A regular meeting of students with the staff of the Department of Microbiology, Virology and Immunology took place in the Scientific Library of Dagestan State Medical University as part of the cycle of events “Scientific heritage and a look into the future” on November 2. The meeting was dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the university.

 The event was opened and conducted by the director of the library Venera Musaeva. Acting Vice-Rector for Public Relations and Social and Educational Work Elmira Abieva made a welcoming speech on behalf of Acting Rector Visampasha Khanaliev.

 Head of the Department of Microbiology, Virology and Immunology  Salidat Omarova made a report and presentation “Antibiotic resistance is a global problem of humanity”. She spoke about the tactics of rational use of antimicrobials in practice, noting: “The widespread use of antibacterial drugs in medical practice has led to the emergence and spread of drug-resistant strains of various groups of microorganisms in the external environment.

  The problem of drug resistance has become global.” Then she gave some examples of practical classes that are held on the basis of the association “Nutrient Media”, where students have the opportunity to get acquainted with new methods of diagnosing infectious diseases, micro-test systems, as well as the technology of production of dry nutrient media and medicines. Separately, Salidat Magomedovna noted the contribution and merits of each employee of the department.

  Students were also told about the main stages of the formation and development of the department, about the scientific research that is currently being conducted at the department (it was noted that the main research of the department is aimed at studying the biology of pathogens of tuberculosis, toxoplasmosis, listeriosis and other dangerous infections); research work, participation in scientific and practical conferences of young scientists and students  and also called to join the ranks of the circle members.

   The staff of the scientific department and the reading room of the library prepared a book exhibition “A Look into the microcosm”, which presented the works of the staff of the department, scientific monographs and teaching aids on microbiology, virology and immunology.

  At the end of the event, the students asked interesting questions and thanked them for an interesting meeting.
