The final of All-Russian Olympiad with international participation in normal physiology “Human matrix” was held at DSMU

The final of   All-Russian Student Olympiad with international participation in normal physiology “Human matrix”, dedicated to the Cosmonautics Day was held at the scientific and educational innovation Center of Dagestan State Medical University on September 27.

24 teams from different regions of Russia and abroad took part in the semifinal of the Olympiad, which was held in an online format, 13 of which  went to the  to the final. These are the teams of Stavropol, Dagestan, Orenburg, Kuban, Kirov, Samara Medical Universities, Sechenov University, Chechen and Mari Universities, Andijan Medical Institute (Uzbekistan), Grodno Medical University (Belarus), Kyrgyz Medical Academy. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic of a new coronavirus infection, only 4 teams were able to take part in the final: “Astra” (DSMU), “Hemocard” (Chechen State University, Medical Institute), “Empire of Stars” (DSMU) and “Impulse” Orenburg State Medical University.

At the opening of the Olympiad, its participants were greeted by Acting Rector of DSMU Naida Mollayeva. “DSMU is one of the oldest universities not only in our republic, but also in the south of Russia. Next year we will celebrate the 90th anniversary of the founding of the university. The university has a glorious history and deep traditions. The university management creates all conditions for students to receive not only modern knowledge and skills, but also to reveal their talents in other areas (scientific, creative, sports, etc.).

The purpose of our Olympiad is to identify and support talented youth, create conditions for the disclosure of their intellectual and creative potential, increase students’ interest in gaining knowledge in the field of physiology, as well as strengthen friendly relations between students of our universities.

Physiology can rightfully be called the foundation on which medicine is built, because it is the science of the essence of life, studying both the vital activity of the organism as a whole and individual systems and processes. The importance of knowledge on normal physiology for the future professional activity of a doctor is great,” she said.

  1. Mollayeva wished the participants success and ingenuity and noted that they are already winners, since they became finalists.

The participants were also welcomed by the head of the Research Institute of Molecular Genetics of Microorganisms, Associate Professor of the Department of Genetics, Chairman of the Council of Young Scientists of the Institute of Fundamental Medicine and Biology of Kazan Federal University, Airat Kayumov: “It is the Olympiads that encourage students to understand new tasks, gain new skills and knowledge. And the most important thing is that at such events you get to know each other, get a tremendous experience of communicating with your colleagues, take a new approach to solving problems, and also help each other. I wish you all good luck, creative thinking and endurance!”

Acting Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, Head of the Department of Normal Physiology of DSMU, Chairman of the Olympiad jury Razin Ragimov, addressing the participants of the event, wished them good luck. “There will be no losers here today, because all the teams that reached the final are winners,” he said and thanked all the participants and university staff who took an active part in organizing and holding the Olympiad.

Somasundaram Subramanian, oncoplastic surgeon, founder and director of the Scientific and Educational Center “Eurasian Oncological Program”, the Eurasian Federation of Oncology, the Eurasian Council for Oncological Research, the Eurasian Cancer Foundation, the Eurasian Society for Head and Neck Oncology, as well as the Anti-Cancer Foundation “The Child Can” also addressed the audience online.

 

The jury of the Olympiad included: Andrey Androv, Head of the Department of Normal and Pathological Physiology of the Chechen State Medical University, Tatiana Kotkova, Associate Professor of the Department of Orenburg State Medical University and employees of the Department of Normal Physiology of the State Medical University. Raziyat Bilalova, Asiyat Izmailova, Naida Abdullayeva, Raisa Suleymanova, Raisat Garunova and Madina Botasheva.

After the opening ceremony, the participants faced difficult stages, as a result of which the winners and prize-winners of the Olympiad will be determined. After the presentation of the teams, the participants of the Olympiad had to go through 5 stages. The first stage is the “Physiology showspace”, during which students demonstrated their practical skills. During the second stage – Suncase, the participants answered questions on space physiology. The third stage was Medical discover, where the teams answered questions. The fourth stage is a captains’ competition called “Skipper No. 1”. Well, the final stage was the quest “BLAKC HOLE” full of riddles and difficulties.

After passing all the stages, the jury determined the winners and prize-winners of the Olympiad, who were awarded diplomas, cups and memorable prizes. So, the first place was taken by the team “Astra” (DSMU), the second place – “Hemocard” (Chechen State University, Medical Institute), the third place – “Impulse” (Orenburg SMU). In the nomination “Striving for victory” – the team “Empire of Stars” (DSMU).

The next day, September 28, the participants of the Olympiad will have a trip to the sightseeing of Dagestan.
