The Intrauniversity freestyle wrestling tournament dedicated to the 90th anniversary of Dagestan State Medical University was held on December 24 at the Sports Complex of Dagestan State Medical University. Among the honored guests of the competition were famous athletes of the Republic of Dagestan as Zagalav Abdulbekov – Olympic champion, world champion, medalist of the World and European Championships; Magomet-Gasan Abushev — Soviet freestyle wrestler, champion of the USSR, Europe and the Olympic Games; Murat Paizulaev – Deputy of the People’s Assembly of the Republic of Dagestan, Vice-President of the Wrestling Federation of the Republic; Lukman Zhabrailov – freestyle wrestler, champion and medalist of the USSR championships, European Championship medalist, world champion, World Cup winner, Master of Sports of the USSR of international class; Batal-Mukhamed Gajiyev – freestyle wrestler, champion and medalist of the USSR championships, winner of international tournaments, master of Sports of the USSR of international class; Magomed Adalov – master of sports USSR, MD, Professor; Osman Makhachev – Master of Sports, MD, Head of the Department of Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery of DSMU.

The competition began on Saturday morning. More than 80 students of Dagestan State Medical University fought for the medals of the competition.

The grand opening of the tournament and the final part of the competition took place in the evening of the same day. The event was opened by the acting rector of  DSMU Visampasha Khanaliev, who noted that many famous athletes graduated from our university, who glorified not only their native alma mater, but also the whole republic and the country. “This is the great Ali Aliev, five-time world champion, silver medalist of the World Championship, European champion, USSR champion, world champion, Olympic silver medalist in freestyle wrestling Magomedkhan Aratsilov, who today is an adviser to the rector and many others.

It is our duty to preserve for posterity the names of graduates of our university who played a huge role in the sports history of Dagestan, the country and the world, to educate the younger generation of doctors by great examples. After all, sport is not only physical culture, it is also moral, thanks to which the people become stronger.
